English Mastiffs - Pictures
English Mastiffs are really huge. Anyone who has ever stood close to this dog might have gotten the creeps. Many people state that the Great Dane does not seem great at all when compared to the English Mastiff. These dogs are considered to be the giants of the Dogdom.
It is interesting to know that the English Mastiff has been officially acknowledged as the heaviest breed of dog. The Guinness Book of Records registered a dog weighing about 286 pounds. The female, Kell by name, that lived in the UK with its happy owner was 2 years old at that time. It follows that the dog was still growing. When asked about the diet the dog lived on, the owner stated Kell ate about 100 pounds of beef a week and fed on much goat's milk. One can imagine how costly it was for the owner to keep the dog. Moreover, veterinary services can be rather costly. Any dog keeper knows that the amount of various vaccinations and other shots given to a dog depends on its weight. The bigger the dog, the more medicine it needs. What about health condition? Does it not suffer because of the incredible strain the body is exposed to? Kell's vet claimed that the dog was checked regularly and no problems were discovered. Actually, Kell is not the only dog that can boast to have such a huge size. A few more dogs were amazingly large, all of them being English Mastiffs.
